In this episode, Jason McCord is helping Carrie Milligan with her mine.  It keeps flooding, and he is at a loss as to what is causing it.  As he ponders the correct action to take, a young cadet at West Point Academy is defending him for his actions during the war which had left him striped of his rank and all honors in his former Army life.

Cadet Bain is up for court-martial.  He refuses to believe that McCord acted out of cowardice, and in consideration of his academic record, Bain is given one month of leave to think over his actions.  At the end of that month, he can either return to school with an apology, or he will be drummed out in disgrace.

Bain heads west.  He ends up at Carrie Milligan's mine, and since he is also an engineer like McCord, he gets himself hired to help determine why the shaft keeps flooding.  Through his help, McCord manages to plug the leak, but when Bain wants to talk to McCord about the former Army man's actions during the war, McCord refuses to defend himself.  This sends Bain into a fit of pique, and he heads to the local saloon, where he meets up with two scruffy miners, one of whom is Wilkes.  With the miners taking the kid for a ride, McCord comes to the rescue.

We do not get to see a lot of Don Collier in this episode, but he is priceless in the saloon fight.
