Tim Sawyer is a desperate man.  There has been no rain for months, and his cattle are starving.  He has no money to purchase feed, and his wife has no flour to bake.   If something does not happen soon, he will be forced off his land.

Leonard Lopez is a desperate man.  He has a domineering wife, a pleasant mistress, and a store he loathes.  All he wants is to get out of town and begin a new life somewhere else...anywhere else.

Charles Sohnburg is a desperate man.  He has embezzled church funds to invest in copper on the stock market, and it has not shown the return he expected.  Now, the church committee is ready to examine his books, and he is unable to replace the missing money.

With lack of money at the root of all their problems, the three men decide to rob the money shipment to the bank.  It arrives every Friday on the noon train, and Deputy Chalk Breeson is the escort from the train depot to the bank.  Since Charlie works as a teller in the bank, it becomes his responsibility to cause a diversion to draw off Chalk and the other guards, so Tim and Leonard can rob the wagon.  It is Leonard Lopez's girlfriend who does not like the Friday arrangements.  She makes the statement that nobody has any luck on Friday.

Charlie sets off dynamite behind the bank at the appointed time, and the explosion makes Chalk and the guards believe the bank is being robbed.  But, Charlie's coworker in the bank has seen him do it, and now Charlie is known as one of the robbers.  To compound the problem further, Leonard Lopez has to kill the guard inside the wagon before he and Tim Sawyer can abscond with the money.  It is just a matter of time before Will Foreman and Chalk Breeson track the bandits to ground.
