A preacher (Colin Cunningham) is given ten
minutes by the local sheriff (Don Collier) to minister to a condemned man
(Kwane Vedrene) who is going to be hanged. Their brief conversation
creates an unsettling bond between the two and reveals more than the
preacher was prepared for. The experience leaves the preacher, and
ultimately the rest of the town, changed forever.

Dick Fisher tapped to helm film in the Tucson area.
The narrative short subject, INCIDENT AT ALMA, is a period
piece set in 1935, to be shot at the movie set town, Gammons
Gulch, north of Benson.
Tucson, AZ, September 12, 2005:
The cameras will roll at the end of
this month on the dramatic short subject film, INCIDENT AT ALMA.
The film is a cautionary tale of race prejudice and personal
redemption. It tells the story of the last few minutes before
the "legal lynching" of a black farm hand in a small rural
community in Arizona. A preacher (played by Colin Cunningham,
Stargate-1, CSI: Miami, House, M.D.) is given ten minutes by
the local sheriff
(veteran western actor Don Collier)
to
minister to the condemned man (introducing Kwane Vedrene). Their
brief conversation creates an unsettling bond between the two
and reveals more than the preacher was prepared for. The
experience leaves the preacher, and ultimately the rest of the
town, changed forever.
"When I first read the script I saw elements of TO KILL A
MOCKINGBIRD mixed with THE GREEN MILE," said director Dick
Fisher. "It’s a timely, dramatic piece with a lot to say about
the human spirit." Fisher, who was the co-creator of the
Sundance grand prize winner, THE BROTHERS McMULLEN, is teamed
once again with producer/writer/actor David Lee Rawlings who
created the 2004 Arizona International Film Festival favorite
DAY OF REMEPTION.
INCIDENT AT ALMA will be shot on location at GAMMONS GULCH, a
movie set village north of Benson. Proprietor Jay Gammons has
assembled an impressive collection of antiques in his recreation
of post-Depression Arizona. "Dick and I chose to shoot the film
at Gammons because of the authentic depth of detail which allows
us to create a period drama on a limited budget," said producer
Rawlings. "Plus Jay and Joanne Gammons, as usual, couldn’t be
more accommodating."
The film is designed to be a showcase for the talents of
Arizona filmmakers and, when completed, will be distributed for
screening at film festivals worldwide.
