Don's TV

Tow Heads

In 1982, Don made a pilot for NBC-TV, in which he and his two film kids were the good guys pitted each week against the bad guys.  It was filmed in McKinney, Texas, and the premise was something of a comedy-adventure along the lines of Smokey and the Bandit.  The storyline involved honest tow trucker Cannonball Shepherd and the dishonest shenanigans of the competition.  Helping Cannonball were his two kids, Daytona Shepherd, played by Will Bledsoe, and Carole Lee Shepherd, played by Mary Davis.  Don was, of course, Cannonball.  It premiered on Saturday, August 14, 1982, but it was not picked up by the television network, so it never became a series.  Included here are two publicity photographs from it.  We will also add some of Don's personal photos taken on the set during filming at a later date.  One day, perhaps the pilot will again be shown as a TV movie?  One can always hope.

Note:  The actress in the photo is identified on the back of the photo as Mary Davis, but she bears a striking resemblance to beautiful Lisa Whelchel.
